Meet Odwa Ntsika Mtembu

Background:

Odwa is born and raised in Mqanduli in the Eastern Cape province and is an earth scientist, climate change activist, social entrepreneur and a young professional practicing in the field of climate, water and applied geomorphology as an environmentalist. He completed his undergraduate studies in Geology, Environmental and Geographical Sciences in 2014 at the University of Cape Town where he also completed his Honours in 2015 in Environmental and Geographical Sciences. As a graduand, he just completed his Master of Sciences degree the University of The Witwatersrand with the School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies where he conducted research on issues linked to climate, applied geomorphology and remote sensing through the geography and geospatial sciences divisions. Since 2016, through the graduate training program, he works for the Department of Water and Sanitation head office as a candidate scientist under the Surface and Groundwater information directorate focusing on groundwater resource assessment and monitoring.

Why did you join the UN2023 Gamechanger as youth jury?

Research, innovation and sustainable development require a lot of creativity, inclusivity and transformation and I believe that the UN2023 Gamechanger teams and jury panel will ensure such key aspects of the challenge are included.
